On The Road Again

IMG_0760

Before leaving for Coimbatore early Wednesday morning we enjoy our last breakfast in the hotel we’ve called home for the past 10 days. For the first time we shared a table with other guests sharing the goodness of the Lord and to our surprise find out they were believers. Never thought I’d be witnessing and taking a photo without a hairdo and makeup LOL. Shows we need to be ready in season and out of season to share the hope that is within us!

We leave Bangalore saying a sad au revoir to Pastor Frederick who has been so gracious to us. He was supposed to travel in the cab with us to ensure we arrived safely at our next destination. But unfortunately his mother became very ill during the night and rushed to hospital. The Lord was so good to us for we find our cab driver not only speaks English but is a believer.

It was a six hour ride and we watched with interest as we passed rice fields, coconut palm orchards, goat farms, monkeys on the side of the road and signs warning of “Elephant Crossings” as the terrain became more mountainous. We passed hundreds of scooters with several passengers.

We stop after three hours for a mini break at a beautiful hotel, and arrive in Coimdatore three hours later. Our cab driver had some problem getting direction to our destination as he didn’t speak the local language! There are at least 28 main languages in India as there are 28 states each having their own languages with many different dialects. Local pastors told us this makes the spread of the gospel more difficult.

We eventually arrive safely at our destination where we will be ministering for the next four days. We were received graciously at Pastor Gomes home for a late lunch.

Isaiah 58:9 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily:and thy righteousness shall go before thee;the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward.

Thank you, Lord for traveling mercies.

This E-mail touched my heart! I received it from the young Hindu man who had cycled over 25 miles in 100 degree sweltering weather to church last Sunday because his English teacher had shared my testimony of healing with him. What a privilege to pray with him to receive God’s love. He made the effort to write to me even though he says he doesn’t speak good English. I wish I could speak Indian as well as he speaks English LOL

Sights to See and Beautiful People to Meet

Monday morning found us getting used to the hectic crowded traffic on our way to share at a prayer meeting at the bishop’s church in downtown Bangalore. There were interesting sights everywhere we looked from trucks ladened with fresh produce from the farms, to some trucks just ladened with people! In the middle of all the activity a lone woman washing her clothes by beating them on a stone step as cows meander through the traffic.

How inspiring and humbling to minister to these faithful prayer warriors. I was so uplifted by their prayers for us as John and I prayed for them.

In the afternoon we took a cab to a local shopping mall to enjoy a cappuccino before preparing for an evening service in a different part of the city. A local church had invited us to a celebration for the pastor’s son’s first birthday. This is a popular tradition in India. The pastor asked us to come back and minister again on Easter Sunday but we will be in Coimbatore ministering at Pastor Harry Gomes’ church. We left with new friends and an invitation to minister again in their church the next time we are in India.

Tomorrow will be a day to catch up with friends on the internet, rest and pack as we leave early Wednesday morning for a five  hour drive to Coimbatore and new divine appointments and experiences.

and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.

A Fruitful Day in His Vineyard

thumb_IMG_0685_1024

Sunday morning I was up so early trying to fit my saree but had to eventually seek the help of a kind young hotel maid. She opened the door to give us an opportunity to witness by asking us if we were going to church! We arrived to a packed church after a long bumpy, dusty ride of just 7 miles which took one hour because of the hectic traffic. Outside the church local ladies were carrying their water pots for their daily supply of water. While inside we were offering spiritual water for thirsty souls crowded on the stairs with some even watching from outside through the windows.

As we prayed and ministered at the end of the service we saw souls saved and healed by the power of God. One dear lady cried many tears of joy trying to tell us how God had healed her during our service the week before and thanked God for bringing us to their church. A family whom we had visited in their home told a young Hindu friend about God healing my body and he cycled over 25 miles to come and meet us and was gloriously set free. PTL!

In the afternoon we took much needed time out to relax for High Tea at the beautiful Taj hotel. Even there God had divine appointments for us. We meet a young hotel hostess who was  from Jamaica who came to talk with me about my saree. During our conversation she inquired if I had gone to all that trouble just to come to tea! I explained I wore it to go to church. She was so excited to meet Christians as she was a believer but had not found a church since she had come to India. We were happy to connect her with one of the local pastors. She is visiting the USA in December and will meet up with us in New York to spend a few days with us.

The taxi driver who drove us back to our hotel was playing music, we couldn’t understand the words but recognized the tune as a worship song. How wonderful to meet another young believer! This may not seem like a big deal but in India it certainly is as it usually means they will be persecuted, refused certain education and employment and cut off from their families. There will be a cost but their faith is like gold tried in the furnace and so inspiring to us who live in the West where we often take our religious freedom so for granted.

Returning to our hotel physically exhausted but spiritually overflowing to prepare for another day in His Vineyard.

Becoming All Things To All People.

All dressed up and ready to go to church today! This will be the first time I’ve ever ministered wearing a saree.

I pray that I might reach the minds of the Indian people by wearing their traditional wardrobe that my words would reach their hearts.

1Corinthians 9:22-23 I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.
