Develop a Lasting Love in your Marriage

As we celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary on July 18th this year

we rejoice at God’s blessing and grace on our years together.

1964 AGAPE, PHILEO AND EROS LOVE led us to 2014

We are brother and sister in the Lord, we are best friends and we are lovers.

In the Greek language AGAPE – PHILEO – EROS –  are all words for love, yet each displaying a different character of love.

AGAPE – Displays the character of God for God is love. It’s the love that cannot be earned, an unconditional love with acceptance and  forgiveness.

Agape love is displayed in a marital union of two good forgivers who learn to seek forgiveness and offer forgiveness, accepting the shortcomings in each other. As both spouses move towards God they are also moving closer to each other as His character is formed in them.

It is available to us through the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is the power of being like-spirited as we pray together, minister together and serve one and other.

PHILEO – Displays the character of friendship. Unlike agape love phileo love has to be earned as it involves trust. It is earned as we learn to trust one another through communicating from the depths of our hearts. Trusting our spouses with our deep wounds, our aspirations, passions and dreams. Never leave your heart unspoken for it displays your heart to your spouse.

Your spouse should be your most trusted and best friend. A relationship where you laugh together, cry together, play together and support  each other’ dreams.

It has been said that “It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”. Friedrich Nietzsche

It is the power of being like-minded as you have fun together sharing and supporting each others’ hobbies, passions and dreams.

EROS –   Displays the character of romantic and sexual love. Eros love is like a phileo friendship love caught on fire. Keep the fire lit in your marriage and your life will be filled with warmth.

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.”  ~Mignon McLaughlin

The Eros love is the only love that makes your marriage different and unique than any other relationship, that is why it is so important to keep romance alive. Light the candles, turn on the music and keep that flame burning brightly.

It is the power of physical attraction and the consummation of body, soul and spirit.

“To keep the fire burning brightly there’s one easy rule:  Keep the two logs together, near enough to keep each other warm and far enough apart – about a finger’s breadth – for breathing room.  Good fire, good marriage, same rule.”  ~Marnie Reed Crowell

A  successful marriage needs all three “loves” to hold it together. As we love God with our body, soul and spirit, likewise we need to love our spouses with our body, soul and spirit. Now we’re talking unity!  In fact the unity in our marriage is a witness to the world of the mystical union of Christ and His church according to Ephesians 5:23

CHALLENGE: “A marriage is not a noun. It isn’t something you are. It is a verb. It’s the way you love your partner everyday with AGAPE, PHILEO and EROS love.

The Cross is My Statue of Liberty

348s

There is no better song than the one penned by our personal friend, Neil Enloe of the Couriers, to celebrate the 4th.July which reminds us not only of  National freedom but also Spiritual freedom.

In New York Harbor stands a lady, With a torch raised to the sky;

And all who see her know she stands for Liberty for you and me.

I am proud to be called an American, To be named with the brave and the free;

I will honor our flag and our trust in God And the Statue of Liberty

On lonely Golgotha stood a cross, With my Lord raised to the sky;

And all who kneel there live forever As all the saved can testify.

I am so glad to called a Christian, To be named with the ransomed and whole:

As the statue liberates the citizen, So the cross liberates the soul.

Oh the cross is my Statue of Liberty, It was there that my soul was set free:

Unashamed I’ll proclaim that old rugged cross Is my Statue of Liberty!

I Really Want to Change But I Need Your Help, Lord!

Dear Father,

Help me, Papa, to overcome, deny and not to feed that which is not of You in my temple!

I cannot, in myself, overcome attitudes that are of my fallen soulish nature. Help me! I can’t change my own attitudes; only you can! Do whatever it takes to conform me to the image of Christ.

Dear Child,

You lay it down, by not trying to preserve it and save it. Don’t even try to use attitudes of the old soulish nature to try and uphold the spirit, the spirit doesn’t need the fleshly soul to uphold it. In fact the fleshly soul will grieve the spirit and stunt the growth of your spirit.

Lay it down and lose it, that*old fleshly soul life; and you shall gain** spiritual life everlasting.

If you are feeding the soul and ego, you are starving the spirit!

How often have I told you that your frustrations and attitudes are out of a desire to be pleasing and acceptable to man, be content with doing all things as unto Me, and these attitudes will have nothing to feed on! Do not feed attitudes that are not of my Spirit, starve them and do not dwell on them or give them life and they will wither and fall away like dead leaves on a tree. Without those leaves there will never be a manifestation of the fruit of the flesh.

                                                          Thus saith Papa

John 12:25  He that loveth his (psuche) life shall lose it; and he that hateth his (psuche) life in this world shall keep it unto (zoe) life

This almost reads like an oxymoron “If I lose my life I will find my life” ??? until we look at these Greek words for “life”.

* “PSUCHE” is the Greek word used for our fleshly soul life

** “ZOE” is the Greek word for spiritual everlasting life

1 Cor 5:7-8  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Challenge: Remember that to have a victory in the Spirit in this Great War you must have a defeat in the Flesh. Spend a few moments reflecting, with your heart totally naked before God, and list the attitudes that you need to put on a starvation diet!

Alert! Alert! A Red Flag of Warning!

th-4

When we feel pain in our body it is a warning to alert us that something is not right with us physically and can drain our strength robbing us of quality of life. We should listen to our bodies and not ignore it for the pain is only a symptom and not the root of the problem. We need to visit a doctor to search and diagnose the root of the problem. Even then he can’t help us if we are not totally honest with him. He will give us a prescription for us to swallow or may recommend some form of surgery.

Likewise when we feel guilty our conscience is sending a warning to alert us that something is wrong with us spiritually robbing us of the joy of our salvation. We should listen to our conscience and not ignore that nagging conviction for it is only a symptom of a deeper root problem. We need to visit the Great Physician that He may search our totally open honest hearts to diagnosis the root of the guilt. He can then cleanse it out even if it may take spiritual surgery followed by a prescription signed by the Hand of God which may include swallowing a pill called pride which is the root of most of our spiritual ailments. There is nothing in this world that can replace the total joy of a guiltless relationship with God and with others.

Acts 24:16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

CHALLENGE: Why live any longer with the nagging pain of a guilty conscience when you can visit the Great Physician?

The Feast of Pentecost

images-33

We can learn so much of the depth of God’s plan of salvation as we journey back to these feasts celebrated by the nation of Israel. This weekend the church remembers its birthday as we observe Pentecost. Many of us including myself did not realize the significance of this Jewish feast.

It was to be celebrated 50 days after the feast of First Fruits which followed Passover. We know that Jesus became our perfect Passover Lamb and was sacrificed for us on the Jewish Passover. Three days later was the glorious resurrection of our Lord on the Feast of First Fruits, for He was the first fruit of them that slept. Now how awesome is that for God’s planning and detail?

The following feast was 50 days later, 10 days after His Ascension, known to us as Pentecost. Travel with me for a few moments back in time to Mount Sinai. Rabbinic scholars believe that it was on this day that God visited His people after their exodus from Egypt after the first Passover and through Moses, brought the Law down from Mount Sinai. This earthshaking day of visitation, trembling, and betrothal was the first Pentecost 50 days after the Passover in Egypt and became  THE BIRTHDAY OF THE  NATION OF ISREAL. Moses brings down the Torah or Law for the nation. Because of sin 3,000 die under the Law. The Old Covenant was a national covenant between God and His covenant people. And so the nation of Israel was established. They agree to follow Him in devotion and obedience.

The fulfillment of this Feast of Pentecost witnesses God visiting His people this time by His Holy Spirit. This is another earthshaking day of visitation and betrothal. But on this occasion God’s Presence is not as unapproachable as on the former visitation back at Sinai. Moses had ordered 12 boundary markers placed around the foot of the mountain to hold back the people lest the fire of God flash out upon them. Amidst the thundering and lightning God came down as a consuming fire and blackened the entire summit. Only Moses could stand in God’s Presence. But this next Pentecostal visitation was quite different. Tongues of fire descended from heaven to rest upon consecrated individuals gathered to wait upon God. All of them had received Messiah and had come to know Him in a personal way in the New Covenant. And so just as Moses had seen the burning bush that was not consumed, the fire that came down and rested upon the 120 in the upper room, was not to consume them but to fill them with the Holy Spirit and with power. This was the beginning of the Holy Spirit outpouring. And Joel saw this coming to a peak at the 6th seal at the very end of the latter days. See Joel 2:28-32. Whereas 3,000 had died under the Law on the previous visitation 3,000 are now saved by Grace as the Apostle Peter preaches to the crowds. And so on this awesome day in holy history, the 7th day of Sivan on the Hebrew calendar, the Feast of Pentecost comes to its appointed New Covenant fulfillment. The Feast of Pentecost, the fourth of the Seven Feasts of Israel is taken up to the next level. It becomes THE BIRTHDAY OF THE CHURCH.

CHALLENGE: God is asking you through the words of the apostle Paul “Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed” Acts 19:2

You may be like the believers in Ephesus in Acts 19 who answer Paul “We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” Be watching for my video “The Baptism of the Holy Spirit” to answer questions and inspire you to seek your own Pentecost.
