What Influence Did Prince William of Orange Have on the USA?

Today in Belfast, Northern Ireland one of the world’s largest parades is taking place to commemorate the victory of Protestant Prince William of Orange over Catholic King James at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, who had wanted to return England back to Roman Catholicism. Grand Lodges and parades are celebrated in Scotland, England, the United States of America, West Africa, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the largest parade being held in Belfast today with hundred of thousands marching.

What has this to do with the USA?

William and his wife Mary signed the English Bill of Rights of 1689. This action both signaled the end of several centuries of tension and conflict between the crown and parliament, and the end of the idea that England would be restored to Roman Catholicism after the many years of blood being shed of so many martyrs to usher in the reformation. So Protestants herald King William as a champion of their faith and freedom.

What has this to do with the USA?

Well, this Bill of Rights was an Act of the Parliament of England requiring the monarch to rule based on “the laws and customs … of Rights, which in turn influenced the American Declaration of Independence almost verbatim.

The Declaration of Independence which was penned by the Scotch- Irish hand of Thomas Jefferson who was influenced and modeled that important historical document after that Bill of Rights of Prince William of Orange with reference to the Treaty of Arbroath signed in 1320 in Scotland. At least 27 of the signatures on the Declaration of Independence were Ulster Scottish Presbyterians.

King William’s supporters refer to him as King Billy. Since many Ulster Scots settled in Virginia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, they became known as “Hill Billies” since they lived in the hills and sang songs about their hero King Billy.

Did you know that Williamsburg Virginia is named after King William?

Did you know that on February 8, 1693, King William III and Queen Mary II signed the royal charter for a “perpetual College of Divinity, Philosophy, Languages, and other good Arts and Sciences” to be founded in the Virginia Colony? And William & Mary College was born. Their names are lent to the second institution of higher learning in the United States, namely, the College of William and Mary.

Princeton New Jersey was originally named Prince Town after King William.

Ulster Scottish Presbyterians founded the College of New Jersey in 1746 in order to train ministers. The college was the educational and religious capital of Scots-Irish America. In 1756, the college moved to Princeton, New Jersey. Its home in Princeton was Nassau Hall, named for the royal House of Orange-Nassau of King William III.

Many highways, towns and at least 9 States have “Orange counties” named in honor of King William and the freedom he won for the followers of the reformation faith in 1690.

So now you know the rest of the story!

The Death Of Common Sense !

An Obituary printed in the London Times…..Absolutely Dead Brilliant!!

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

– Knowing when to come in out of the rain;

– Why the early bird gets the worm;

– Life isn’t always fair;

– And maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death,

-by his parents, Truth and Trust,

-by his wife, Discretion,

-by his daughter, Responsibility,

-and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers;

– I Know My Rights

– I Want It Now

– Someone Else Is To Blame

– I’m A Victim

– Pay me for Doing Nothing

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

An Empty Full Room With A View

We recently had to completely empty our living room to have the floor tiled. It became a window to my soul as I looked around the empty, quiet space and yet could hear the echo of the presence of all who once filled it.

It looked so big, still and empty yet had to be that big to hold so many memories.

It was an oxymoron moment – empty yet so full of memories.

As I reflected I could view all the family and friends who have passed through it, many of whom have since gone to be with the Lord.

It has been used for entertaining and hospitality. It has served visitors and family from all over the world, dinner parties, even high teas for ladies when the rain poured on our garden outside, Christmas, New Year, super ball, birthdays, anniversaries, and surprise parties, a sanctuary to gather for Bible Study, cell groups, counseling and prayer. Yes it has been full to capacity overflowing with friends and joyful chatter but also a place to be alone and quiet with my own thoughts. It has seen physical, emotional and spiritual battles and has been a shelter from the storm when we walked through valleys but also saw us climb to mountain tops of victory. Yes this room has recorded in its walls tears of loss and pain but also tears of joy, celebration, singing, dancing, and the presence of the Lord.

Take a moment to reflect and look around your living room and you will see how big it is for it is not just four walls but a storage of memories of your life and remember your most important Royal Guest who has never left you nor forsaken you.

How Far Have We Come?

Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord;

The foundation of this land was built on faith in God.

Now we are crying out to God for help to heal our land!

In His answer He gives us a choice………………..

Now He is waiting for our response!

2 Chronicles 12-22 I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice. If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place. For now have I chosen and hallowed this house, that my name may be there for ever; and mine eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually. But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. And this house, which is so high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall say, Why hath Jehovah done thus unto this land, and to this house?  And they shall answer, Because they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them

As believers we just stood by and allowed:

1. God to be removed from our schools and universities.

Schools were first instituted in our nation to enable children to read God’s Word. In fact their study book was the Bible.

In 1792, in the first session of Congress, a resolution was unanimously passed that provided an appropriation for the Federal Government to purchase 20,000 Bibles from a printer in Philadelphia. This resolution further stated that the Bibles were to be given to schools “for instruction and guidance”.

How far have we come?

2. Our Ivy League colleges were all founded on God’s Word. But today our young  people are being indoctrinated by liberal professors instead of being educated based on Godly principals.

How far have we come?

3. Homosexuality is now running unchecked and accepted, even normalizing it by twisting the sanctity of marriage.

Immorality is running rampant with fornication and adultery leading to the divorce rate rising to over 50% with many even living without the commitment of marriage with no shame resulting in the breakdown of the home. And we wonder what is happening to the children being raised in fatherless homes without the security of boundaries.

How far have we come?

4. I remember the day when if it was a choice between saving the life of the mother or the baby’s life at birth, the baby’s life was always spared.

Now we abort a baby right up to the day of birth and refuse it medical attention if that child should survive the abortion.

How far have we come?

5. Our Republic was to protect our right to worship God not hinder it.

FYI Separation of church and state is not even in our constitution but based only on a letter. The phrase “separation of church and state” comes from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in1802. This was not a government document or public policy paper, but a personal, private letter. Jefferson’s letter was written in response to an earlier letter from the Danbury Baptist Church.

How far have we come?

6. The pilgrims fled to a country where they would be free from a State denominational Church like the Church of England. A country where they would have freedom to worship and follow the God of the Bible as they chose.

And now our government recognizes Satanism as a religion!

How far have we come?

7. Have we no shame of these sinful abominations in our nation?

This lack of  shame was birthed by a lack of fear and respect for God.

Leading us in a downward spiral where there is a lack of fear or respect for any authority be it law enforcement, school teachers or even parents.

How far have we come?

At the ballot box we are approving or disapproving of those who will pass laws to break His Word or keep His Word.

Are we as believer citizens not guilty of being accessory to their actions in government?

Before it is too late those who are called by His name need to get a backbone and stand up with boldness against laws in our nation that are against God’s word.

Our constitution was based on God’s Word so how can we pass laws against that Word?

How can those in government

put their hand on the Bible to take an oath

And then with that same hand sign into law that which is against that Bible?

God is calling this nation to repent and then He will heal our land!

It is not a matter of political party. We should pray for all elected officials especially those who are believers to be bold and stand up for God’s Word.

We need to pray for pastors that they do not water down God’s Word while political correctness is strangling our nation but speak the unadulterated Word in humble boldness.

We need to be Biblically correct

 rather

Than be politically correct.

The answer is not up to Washington or Wall Street or even society.

Believers it is up to us!

Will we humbly repent of our personal sin?

Will we repent of the part we played as an accessory

to that which has become our law by voting these officials into power?

Yes, they pass ungodly laws but who voted them into office and gave them that power?

How can we edit His Word by tearing out that which does not fit with current society.

Perhaps we need to repent for the sin of not praying for those in authority over us.

Have we prayed for our President in our prayer time or even in our churches?

Have we prayed for our government?

Have we prayed for our pastors?

1 Tim 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

Will we not be held accountable for our inactions when we should have the boldness to stand up and say something? Will we repent of the sins of omission? When we are silent are we not denying Him? “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Edmund Burke

It is up to us! We are in control of our destiny! I do not believe we were created puppets in the Hand of our Creator who gave us all free will.

When we cry out to Him for mercy on our nation He has answered our prayer and He now awaits our response.

Even as believers we justify how far we have come by meekly accepting the fact that society is changing BUT God’s Word never changes! That is why He is the Rock we can stand on.

We are the light of the world but our acceptance of current society is extinguishing that light.

CHALLENGE: If we don’t stand for something we will fall for anything!

HOW FAR HAVE WE COME???

Don’t miss this opportunity the Lord has given His church this PENTECOST.

Shavuot is the Hebrew for the feast of Pentecost as they celebrated the gathering of the harvest!

How appropriate that at the birth of the church at Pentecost God was  empowering His church with dunamos to go and gather a harvest of souls.

Could this be God’s final altar call to the world for He is not willing that any perish but that all come to repentance! God has never had the attention  of the whole world like He has today with this pandemic that has effected every nation and every tribe.

“We all want normal again but not a normal where a nation is openly hostile to Christians, a nation that rejoices and revels in godless behavior.

If Franklin Graham’s humanitarian organization, Samaritan’s Purse, who built an emergency hospital in Central Park, New York can be protested during a pandemic for affirming Biblical values, what will happen to churches and ministries during a time of health and prosperity?”

( The Decision Magazine )

During this lockdown season God is giving His church the time to wait on Him as they did at Pentecost that we might go forth in His might and power to bring in the end time harvest. Church it is time for us to wake up and see that the harvest to ripe unto harvest.

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Matthew 9:37-38 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Pray ye therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest.
